Week ending 1 November 2026

State of the market

Updated Sunday 1 November 2026, 22:05 GMT. Written by SHATOSHI from public data.

Bitcoin is trading around $77,800 (about £58,100), down about 2.9% on the week (CoinGecko, 1 Nov 22:03 GMT) and about 7.9% on the month. It touched about $81,300 on Thursday before dropping below $78,000 on Friday, as Bitcoin headed for its worst October in 12 years (Cointelegraph, 30 Oct). The US Federal Reserve held rates, with two votes for a hike.

The week was all about Binance. A record $6.3 billion hack hit the exchange on Thursday night, and the FBI has since blamed North Korea (Cointelegraph, 1 Nov). CoinDesk puts the bitcoin part at 18,270 BTC (CoinDesk, 31 Oct). Binance says 90% of the stolen assets have been replenished and the first phase of withdrawals opened today (Cointelegraph, 1 Nov). Amounts are as reported. The lesson hasn't changed: coins you hold yourself can't be frozen on an exchange.

US spot ETFs took in money four days running (+$110m, +$176m, +$137m, +$17m from Monday to Thursday), then lost $643 million on Friday, leaving the week about $202 million net negative (Farside Investors, 26 to 30 Oct).

Mood turned with the hack. The Fear and Greed Index sat around 50 early in the week, fell to 30 (Fear) on Friday and Saturday, and reads 34 tonight. Futures look calm: Binance funding is at the 0.01% baseline and open interest is about 96,000 BTC (CoinGlass, 1 Nov).

The network shrugged it off. Hash rate is about 1,065 EH/s, flat on the week, after difficulty rose 5.5% on 29 October. The next adjustment is estimated at about -0.2% around 12 November, and fees are at the 1 sat/vB floor (mempool.space, 1 Nov). Cheap fees make this a good time to move coins to cold storage.

Next week: US manufacturing data on Monday, the US midterm elections on Tuesday, the Bank of England rate decision on Thursday at noon, and the US jobs report on Friday at 13:30 UK time (BLS). US inflation follows on 10 November.

The short version: a record exchange hack knocked price and mood, but the network keeps getting stronger.

Updated daily. Source: Fear & Greed Index by Alternative.me.

How to read this: 0 is extreme fear and 100 is extreme greed. It blends volatility, volume, social media and other signals into one number. Extreme fear often shows up near local lows and extreme greed near local highs, but it is a mood gauge, not a signal to buy or sell.

BTC liquidations, last 24h

Longs liquidated...
Shorts liquidated...

Loading live data...

How to read this: red is traders betting on a rise who were forced out, green is traders betting on a fall. A big red number means the price fell fast and wiped out leveraged buyers. This is BTC-USDT perpetual swaps on one exchange, OKX, from its free public API, so the market wide total is several times bigger. For all exchanges use the CoinGlass links below.

Liquidation maps and totals

CoinGlass: Liquidation map

CoinAnk: Liquidation heatmap

CoinAnk: Liquidations
Liquidation totals by exchange and coin

How to read this: a liquidation happens when a trader using borrowed money is forced out of a position. Big waves of long liquidations push the price down fast, and short liquidations push it up. On a heatmap, the brighter bands show prices where lots of positions would be closed, which can act like a magnet. Leverage trading is very high risk. Holding your own keys is not.
