For UK readers · Updated 3 November 2026Best Bitcoin hardware wallet in the UK
A hardware wallet keeps your Bitcoin keys on a small device that never shares them with your computer or phone. This guide compares six popular choices that work well for Bitcoin, with Bitcoin-only options picked out. It does not cover buying Bitcoin, prices or returns. It is about the hardware only.

Trezor Safe 3 and Safe 5
Trezor Safe 3
A small, simple device with a secure element certified to EAL6+, open source firmware and a two-button pad with a small OLED screen. It connects by USB-C, with no air-gapped signing. The secure element chip runs its maker's own closed code, while Trezor's firmware is open. A Bitcoin-only edition is sold with firmware that removes everything except Bitcoin, which keeps the code smaller.

Trezor Safe 5
The same security approach as the Safe 3, with a larger colour touchscreen and haptic feedback that make checking addresses easier. There is a Bitcoin-only edition as well.
Suits: someone who wants a bigger screen and easier daily use.

BitBox02 Bitcoin-only
Made in Switzerland, with open source firmware, a secure chip and touch sliders on the sides. Backups can go to the included microSD card, and you can also show the standard recovery words to write down. The Bitcoin-only edition is a separate product from the multi-coin one and cannot be switched later. The original BitBox02 does not work with iPhone or iPad. No air-gapped signing.
Suits: people who want a clean, Bitcoin-only device that is easy to set up on a computer or Android phone.

Blockstream Jade
A low-cost device with a colour screen. Jade Plus adds a camera; Jade Core does not. Jade can work fully air-gapped by scanning QR codes, or by USB or Bluetooth. Instead of a classic secure element it uses a "virtual secure element": part of the secret is held by a server and released only with the right PIN. There is also firmware with the radio turned off. Firmware and hardware are open source.
Suits: a budget air-gapped setup, and people who use Sparrow or other desktop wallets.

Foundation Passport
Foundation's current model, Passport Prime, has a 3.5 inch touchscreen, a camera for QR codes, a security processor plus secure element, and open source hardware and software. It is assembled in the USA. It does more than Bitcoin signing, including 2FA codes and security keys.

Coldcard
Coldcard is Bitcoin-only and built for security-focused users. The Mk5 has a keypad and screen. The Q adds a full keyboard, a bigger screen and a QR scanner. Both can work without ever plugging into a computer, using a microSD card or NFC. It uses two secure elements from different chip makers, and its firmware is open and reproducible. There are a lot of advanced settings, so expect to read the manual. Coinkite has published a firmware fix for a random number issue on some models, and older affected seeds need moving to a new wallet.
Suits: experienced users and anyone planning a multisig setup.

Ledger
Ledger makes the Nano S Plus, Nano X, Flex and Stax. All use a secure element chip and support many coins as well as Bitcoin, with no Bitcoin-only edition. The Nano X, Flex and Stax can connect to a phone by Bluetooth. The secure element firmware is closed source. Ledger Recover is an optional paid service that backs up an encrypted copy of your seed; you can ignore it and keep only your own written recovery words.
Suits: people who want one device for several coins and an easy phone app.

Whatever you pick, buy direct from the maker or an official reseller, check the seals, and let the device create a fresh seed phrase. Learn how in Seed phrases and backups. For the bigger picture on hot and cold wallets, read Choosing a Bitcoin wallet.
Go further: run your own node
A hardware wallet keeps your keys safe. A node lets you check your own transactions without trusting someone else's server. Umbrel and Start9 are popular home servers that run a Bitcoin node with a simple app store, or you can run Bitcoin Core yourself on a spare computer. Most of the wallets above can connect to your own node through Sparrow or similar software.

Questions people ask
What is the best Bitcoin hardware wallet in the UK?
It depends on what you value: open source code, a secure element, QR signing or ease of use. This guide lists each device with its weak points so you can choose.
Where should I buy a hardware wallet in the UK?
Direct from the maker or an authorised reseller. Never second hand, and never use one that arrives with recovery words already filled in.
Do I need a Bitcoin-only device?
No, but Bitcoin-only firmware has less code that could go wrong, which some people prefer.
